Join Us in the Kitchen: Applications Open for a New Round of Projects

The word is that upper management is very pleased with the progress of the first set of five open textbooks supported by the BCcampus via the 2020 H5P OER Development Grants.

Just by numbers, close to 500 new H5P activities have been created. For more of a sense of what came out of the kitchen, see the showcase of examples featured in the November 26 webinar. Look for an update in January 2020 when the new versions of the textbooks are made available in the BCcampus Open Textbook Collection.

If you are at a BC post secondary institution and are interested yourself in this kind of work, a new opportunity has just opened for you.

That’s right, the lights in the H5P/Pressbooks kitchen will not only stay on, but we will be taking on five new projects. The call for proposals opened yesterday and will be open until February 5, 2021.

This call for proposals is for post-secondary instructors and faculty in British Columbia to develop sets of content types in H5P that support open textbooks in the B.C. Open Textbook Collection (see a list of suggested books). The intent of these grants is to develop activities in which students can practice applying new concepts and skills that align with content within the selected open textbook.

Eligible grantees include individual instructors, groups of faculty or instructors, departments, institutions, or external working groups made up of instructors and faculty connected to B.C. post-secondary institutions (i.e., articulation groups or other working groups). Collaboration between individuals and departments at different institutions is not only allowed, but encouraged.

Support for this new group will be provided again via this web site, the monthly webinars, and the open community space in Mattermost (join now and feel free to ask questions). Or just ask via the comments below.

Learn more about the current projects and for a good taste, see the recording of our last webinar where their efforts were shared.

Come cook with us in 2021.
